Today just seemed off so far. Boring. Ordinary. Ok, so it was a Monday, but still, excitement was what kept Noelle entertained. Classes were over for the day, and most of the students had headed into their dorms for some studying or just hanging out, or had hit the shops. Normally, Noelle would have joined them, but for some reason, she felt rather introverted today. Armed with her ipod, her blanket, and a basic digital camera, Noelle headed out to the lush grassy lawn that was spread out like a massive red carpet across this courtyard. Except of course, it was green.
Taking in rhythmical breaths of the chilly breeze, Noelle took long strides in her suede grey boots across the lawn until she reached a suitable place to lounge. Noelle unrolled her fleece blanket, one that she didn't mind getting grass stains on, and layed it across the desired place where she would rest. Normally, Diamond's didn't just lounge around on the lawn like common students. Noelle, however, seemed to possess her patch of lawn like it belonged to her, and like it was somehow superior to the other sections of grass.
Laying gently on her blanket, Noelle took out her 80GB Ipod Classic and Sony Studio Monitor head phones that were a cheap gift from her father, the CEO of Sony. Scrolling down to 'SHUFFLE SONGS' and pressing the center button, Noelle closed her eyes and laid on her back comfortably as the song 'Say What You Will' by Damhnait Doyle fluttered gently to her ears. Listening to the lyrics, Noelle's breathing became slow and relaxed, like she was on the verge of slipping into an unconscious sleep.

apollo had to get out more. he couldn't always stay inside and read. he had to get out more and that was what he told himself everyday which was to get up more. today he had woken up and had just went to school. apollo could say that he was a good student. he listened in class and didn't try to interrupt. actually, apollo thought that he took his schooling seriously. his life outside of school and his life in school were like night and day. in school, apollo was quiet and calm but out of school, he was a partier. it was two different apollos and he really didn't know which side of him people preferred. he was still really trying to find who he was inside. after finishing classes though, apollo wasn't sure what to do. it was only a monday and mondays were just a lazy day. he usually went back to his dorm on mondays and would curl up with a book that he would read over and over again. sitting on his bed was nights in rodanthe.
today however, apollo had gone out. he didn't know what he was going to do however. he just needed some fresh air. some exercise wouldn't hurt either so apollo would call it a walk. he would take a walk really not knowing who he would talk to. apollo really wasn't clingy towards people though. girls that he had relationships in the past, yes but other than that he didn't always need friends by him. he didn't need a friend always by him. maybe it was because he was sick of his brother. him and his brother growing up were always together and they were always compared to each other. apollo was the younger twin and so he was pointed out being the younger one. he was always jealous though and it was only by a couple minutes but still his brother never shut up when they were younger about that.
walking across the lawn of the courtyard, apollo wasn't sure what or who he would find. he continued walking before spotting a brunette laying on the lawn with headphone in her ears. apollo stopped right in his tracks seeing the young beauty laying there looking so silent. he thought about sleeping beauty seeing her and he had that chance earlier in his life to be the prince that awoken her up from her slumber. apollo had ruined that though. he always blamed himself that he had done something wrong and that he had just fell of his white horse into a pile of mud. now sleeping beauty would be ready for any other prince to lay a kiss on her. apollo would be stuck in the mud watching in the sunset as his princess ran away with the wrong prince.
oh what was apollo really kidding, could he really think this seriously about one girl? she was his first though, first girlfriend, first kiss and almost first third base. noelle was going to be all of his firsts. apollo had other girls in the past but none that could compare to her. he always tried to put in his head that the other girls were better than noelle but the summer that they had spent together, it was like the notebook. he was noah while she was allie. noah the boy who didn't even have two dimes to rub while allie the girl who had the world underneath her feet. apollo wasn't poor but compared to noelle and her family, he was noah calhoun. feeling a lump in his throat come up, he knew he would have to past her to continue his walk and apollo was not going to be a chicken and walk back to his dorm. he wasn't going to go back and hide underneath his covers and read his book for the fifth time. apollo took a deep breath as he took a few steps getting closer to noelle.

Just as Noelle almost slipped to sleep and she was no longer able to concentrate on the music being played straight into her ears, a particularly loud and jarring song came booming through her speakers, jolting the girl from her soon-to-be slumber. Hands flying to the control wheel on her ipod and quickly turning down the volume, Noelle rose into a sitting position and removed her headphones from her ears. Although they were throbbing a bit, Noelle was fairly certain that her hearing abilities would be just on par in a few seconds. Wrapping her ipod up and placing it into her bag, Noelle exchanged it for a small gold sony cyber-shot that was quite sleek-looking, actually. Ahh, one of the many perks of having a father that was Sony's CEO was definitely the numerous free electronic gadgets.
However, this camera was not nearly as advanced or expensive as the one she used only for photography class assignments. No, this was one that she kept on her constantly just for spur of the moment photographic opportunities, such as this one. Pressing the on button and sliding down the sleek metal lens cover, Noelle's gaze shifted to the gigantic touch screen that portrayed the scene in crisp, crystal-clear color. Snapping a detailed shot of the blades of grass around her, Noelle continued to move the camera around, photographing anything she found interesting. The darkness that the rain-promising clouds cast across the campus made the camera's automatic flash light the scene every time she captured an image.
When Noelle pointed her camera towards the paved walkway, the image of a man standing a ways away from her came into the frame. Pivoting the camera's lens upwards a slight amount, Noelle could clearly depict the man's face. Suddenly, it felt as if the wind had been knocked out of the girl, but she managed to convince her finger to press down on the button it was positioned above. The air around her suddenly got 10 degrees cooler, sending shivers across every vulnerable shred of flesh. Noelle's brown eyes flooded with salty liquid, but refused to spill over. This wasn't any man. Instantly, Noelle could tell Apollo apart from his identical twin brother. It could have been the way he looked at her, the hurt in his eyes. It could have been the way he moved, it was with slightly less confidence than his brother. Anyways, Noelle was sure from the millisecond he registered in her brain that it was Apollo and not his brother. She simply knew.
Noelle would have liked a greeting smile to flash across her soft lips, but instead they twitched downwards slightly, like those of a four year old about to cry. This seventeen year old felt like she was on the verge of crying. Taking in a sharp intake of breath and tearing her dark brown eyes from his frame, Noelle's hands dropped into her lap, as well as her eyes. Her body ached all of the sudden, and she wanted to crawl into bed. She hated that seeing Apollo somewhat melancholy had such an involuntary effect on her, but it was just that, involuntary. Noelle would love it if he was just another man, one that she wouldn't think twice about normally. Besides, he was only a pearl. If someone extremely shallow and uncaring was judging their relationship, they would say that Apollo wasn't deserving of being with Noelle. This extremely shallow and uncaring person had been her father several years ago, when he had forced his daughter to sever all ties with Apollo. Sever all ties roughly with a rusty, jagged blade.

apollo slowly walked closer to the beauty. he studied her face and the soft features. he tried to turn his blue eyes away but it was like his stare was frozen on her. he quickly turned his head seeing that she had gotten up now holding a camera. it pierced his stomach remembering that noelle's dad was a ceo at a large technology company. he had remembered he had another powerful job but apollo hadn't remember, he had remembered those small details about noelle but not every single one. plus apollo always thought that mr. delacroix never wanted to get to know him. apollo didn't even know how he would act around him. he would probably have to get a suit on, get some of the gel out of his hair and act more like a gentleman. now apollo was a gentleman but he didn't show it. that wasn't his style, he preferred to be the silent and mysterious type.
apollo stopped his walking as he watched noelle take a few pictures now was he seeming like a stalker now? kinda like edward watching bella as she slept. apollo wasn't that creepy, he really wasn't going to watch noelle sleep unless she was in a bed with him and that hadn't happened since they were younger when they fell asleep after a long day together. he had fallen asleep that day though and hadn't watched noelle sleep and how old was he back then? he couldn't even remember but young back when he hadn't had a first kiss yet. those were easy for apollo, he didn't really have a care in the world. sure his parents were divorced but that hadn't affected apollo that much. he always knew his parent's relationships lacked passion and romance.
apollo made his right foot step on the grass. his foot felt heavy as if he had boots on. he took a deep breath as he continued to walk passing noelle trying not to look her in the eye. how hard it would be to look into those brown eyes that he had once stared into now he could hardly even raise his head to even glance at the young beauty. he continued walking as he past her but stopped not sure why and knowing that he couldn't go forward without even letting one word out his mouth. he knew he wasn't ready to tell noelle how he really felt but still, he felt as if he needed to talk. he needed to speak to her even if it would just be a minute. apollo would be romeo speaking to juliet while she sat on her balcony looking pretty.
apollo could feel himself turning around and now it wasn't even like he was in control of his body anymore. something else was moving his feet to turn around and step more forward towards noelle. he really didn't know what but something in him also wanted to turn around and talk but another part of him really just wanting to continue with his walk. he didn't even know what he would say and he didn't even know how he would bring himself to even talk to her. he wasn't going to just let all of his feelings out just all of sudden. what would he really look like, a man who couldn't even move on from what he had before. he was growing up and he had to move on from the past.
turning around, he thought his footsteps were louder than what they should be as he walked closer to noelle. on his face nor a smile nor frown. he really wasn't sure what he was supposed to show on his face. should he try to fake like he was actually happy? like his life was going great and show noelle that he had moved on? that would be the better plan. what girl wanted a guy who hadn't even cleaned up his dirty laundry? he took a few steps before coming close to her as he put a small but awkward smile on his face. he felt something twisting his tongue but he couldn't just stand there. "um hello." two words was all that he could make come out of his mouth.

Apollo hadn't changed much. He might have grown another inch, which made them now around 9 inches apart. The difference wasn't as obnoxious when Noelle wore her 4 inch heels, but times like know when her footwear of choice happened to not aid her one bit in the vertical category, the difference was very noticeable. When they were dating, people often noticed their height difference and made little remarks on how adorable it was. But now Noelle wasn't so sure. For once, she wished she could be something different. Did Apollo see the five foot ten amazons striding around campus and pine for them? Suddenly, a bolt of envy shivered down Noelle's spine.
Being jealous made Noelle a new kind of vulnerable. Noelle wasn't supposed to envy anyone, but the truth is, she would envy the next object of Apollo's affections immensely. This wasn't fair to him, however, and Noelle was aware of this. For all Noelle knew, Apollo could be dating another girl. Ok, Noelle would know 99.9% of the time, but perhaps Apollo picked up some skills from their previous go around about hiding a relationship from the prying and unforgiving eyes of the public. Another involuntary shiver struck the girl as Apollo's intense green eyes flickered over to hers. He took steps towards her without letting on that he was struggling emotionally against doing so. When he stopped moving forwards towards her, he was still several feet further away from her than she would prefer.
A few timid words seemed to slip past his soft lips, and the hint of a smile flashed across Noelle's own lips. She rolled the words over and over again, playing his voice back on replay. Noelle hadn't heard that voice in far too long, and had almost forgotten what it sounded like. Now, however, it was fresh in her mind again, and sounded just as she had remembered it. The door was open for conversation, however awkward a conversation it might be. Taking a few confident steps towards him, Noelle took in a deep breath, a bit of normalcy returning to her.
"Apollo, how have you been? You still look great."
Noelle complimented, her brown eyes drifting quickly across his long, perfectly messy locks. She was quite sure that he hadn't spent hours in front of the mirror perfecting every hair. No, he was effortlessly faultless. The cold appeared to have brought a bit of color into his cheeks, which made Noelle shiver slightly at the thought. She was quite warm at the moment, although she should have been shivering uncontrollably in the sheer, sleeveless blouse she was wearing. However, Noelle could have sworn it was the middle of July as she took in Apollo's unkempt and unruly appearance that she had missed so much.

glancing up at noelle and finally meeting his eyes up to hers, he dearly missed those eyes. those brown eyes that he had seen during the summer. sure glances in the hall were always caught. his eyes not knowing that hers were going to meet his but his quickly turning away. apollo in the halls couldn't keep brushing her, he would someday actually have to talk to her. he had tried all this time to avoid her, that was hard for apollo. he had thoughts of her being with another guy for one this girl was gorgeous, a real gem actually a real diamond. the fact that he was a pearl would never compare to a diamond. sure pearls were also great but really they were what your grandmother's wore while diamonds were what wives married to rich business men wore. apollo would always be the necklace stuck around a grandmother's neck.
since he hadn't seen noelle a lot, he didn't know what was going on in her life and who was in her life. apollo tried not to think about not wanting to picture in his mind noelle getting close to another man other than himself. he couldn't even picture the image in his mind, it couldn't happen. apollo knew that noelle had set him free and that she also was a free butterfly in the wind but still apollo was still waiting apon a flower waiting for noelle to come back. of course winter always came and that symbolized when times were rough for apollo but he still lied on that flower and he didn't know when his wings would be ready to open. he wasn't sure when he would flutter away again.
seeing noelle, she didn't look broken up or hurt. she looked beautiful as she always did. he never knew how long it took noelle to get ready but apollo had seen noelle as a child and had always thought of her as a cute girl. now she had grown into a stunning young woman. apollo really didn't know how those years had gone by so quickly. he hadn't actually seen noelle in a long time and when he did, she was exactly what he had remembered from her. a beautiful brown-eyed brunette. he would never need her to be a supermodel and that was the last thing that he wanted her to become. he had learned that she had an edge to herself but apollo really liked that in her. it was a flaw for when other students were intimidated by her but apollo had knew noelle for so long that he would never be scared to fight back at her. not physically but if she ever were to cross the line then he would be able to talk back at her.
apollo would never liked doing that but relationships had their bumps, their flaws, the hills that made it hard but stripping it all down, love wasn't about how perfect it was. he still had memories of the two fighting during the summer. apollo telling her that she should just let him go if her dad didn't want them together. better for her just to let him go before he fell in too deep. of course, apollo had fallen in deep but he wouldn't tell noelle that. it was only a fling right? a simple summer fling that was fun and feelings that were once alive like a flower would die by the end when autumn would come rolling about. it would be fun, the feelings would be fake almost like hallucinations. they would be fun but be done with and apollo was sure that those feelings were going to be gone by summer.
hearing noelle's voice, her voice truly was the soundtrack to his summer or it had been. now it was only going to be a voice that lightly haunted him like a ghost in a home trying to say something. this ghost was actually a figure which made it even harder for apollo. he saw the smile on her lips and he tried not to look as if that hurt him. he tried to keep the smile on his own face knowing that it was crooked. "thanks, i've been alive and you?" what an answer to that question. he still looked great? how could she say that? apollo thought he looked like a mess, how could he be a hot mess? "well same to you, you still look amazing." he looked up at her pink that grazed on her cheeks. he thought it was amazing how she could still look with just black and grey on her with that tint of pink on her cheeks.

More than anything, Noelle's fingers seemed to want to comb through Apollo's messy locks, or brush his soft cheek slightly. Did they still feel the same? What about his kiss? Did he still kiss the same? Biting her lip softly as she thought of this, Noelle refused to let her eyes leave Apollo's. Usually when two people stared at each other for so long, it got awkward for one of them. Noelle couldn't see that happening, however, at least not today. She had missed Apollo so much that her eyes were thirsty for him, and they had not yet gotten their fill. Noelle couldn't help the smile that was now stretched across her face, it felt so good to be this close to Apollo once more and actually speaking to him. They say time heals all wounds, but some wounds are too deep to heal, they just scab over a bit and ache for the rest of time. Noelle prayed that she did not inflict this kind of wound upon Apollo.
Catching a glimpse of Apollo's uncertain half-smile, Noelle's faded. Was he unable to smile at her? He seemed like he was trying, but the muscles in his face didn't seem to cooperate. It was as if they were discouraging him from being happy to see her. They were wary, not wanting Apollo to receive any more damage than he had in the past. Noelle's brows came together the slightest millimeter, so faint that Apollo would have to be paying attention to her every physical motion to catch the slight hint of displeasure. Noelle hated to see Apollo hurting. It took a great deal of restraint to keep her from taking a step closer and embracing him for hours.
"I can see that."
Noelle retorted, a bit of her attitude peeking forth. Of course, she didn't want to give Apollo attitude, but she was pulling at strings, trying to find the right one that would bring a genuine smile to his lips. Noelle's own smile wriggled back onto her lips after her snarky comment, telling Apollo that she was simply trying to get a rise out of him She would do anything to see him smile right now. When he made the comment about her appearance, Noelle's head dipped slightly, hiding the rise of color in her cheeks. Random men threw compliments at Noelle dozens of times a day, so Noelle was very accustomed to receiving them. However, when Apollo complimented her, he seemed genuine. He wasn't trying to prove anything or get in her pants, he genuinely thought that she looked amazing. This certainly made Noelle feel amazing.
When Noelle brought her brown eyes back up to meet Apollo's green ones, her smile was back in place across her lips.
"I forgot that you have that effect on me."
Noelle explained, her voice dropping slightly. Involuntarily, her feet closed the gap between them by another foot. The two were now standing two and a half feet apart. The distance would have been awkward in a casual conversation, and too far away in a conversation between lovers. Noelle craved touching him, however, and wasn't sure how much longer she could resist. The cold, crisp breeze rustled past the pair, fingering gently through Noelle's brown-sugar scented locks. The sky looked threatening, but Noelle would gladly sacrifice the condition of her hair to continue this conversation with Apollo.

he really wasn't sure how to feel at the moment, was he supposed to feel anger against her? the only explanation ever given to him was because noelle's father did not like the two dating. that gave apollo nothing. he wanted to know what noelle had really felt. he could've understood if it was because he had a flaw to himself like he was becoming to obsessive or he wasn't telling noelle how he really felt. apollo kept reminding himself in his mind that all it had been was a fling but it never made sense in a fling. a fling really wasn't really supposed to spawn real memories and feelings towards someone. maybe apollo just hadn't gotten the plan of a fling. he didn't know that all it was fun and excitement so maybe he had heard that it was just all that but apollo really couldn't have helped it if real feelings had really come out of him. they were feelings, something he couldn't control.
staring into those lovely brown eyes, apollo knew that if he stared long enough that emotions would come rushing back. turning quickly he broke off the stare something inside of him not wanting that to have happen. however his eyes turned back not sure if he really should have broken the stare or have just kept staring at her face. noelle's facial features were soft almost like a porcelain doll's features. they were so effortlessly beautiful and flawless. he ran his hand through his hair feeling like it was a mop of a mess. did he look messed up? he definitely knew that he didn't have the air of beauty like noelle held so easily. apollo could easily think that he had a careless beauty about himself but that would be like believing a lie, useless and there was no real gain of anything in the end of it all.
looking up once to look up at noelle, he saw that the smile on her face had faded and he still had the crooked one across his face. had it turned off noelle that his smile looked as if it was fake? apollo couldn't lie not even in his face, he tried so hard to try to fake it but it would not work. apollo was not a liar nor did he think he would ever be one. he then saw it come up after hearing her comment about his sarcastic comment about just living. it really wasn't sarcastic but how hard he had tried to make it sound like he was trying to be sarcastic. "you would come to my funeral wouldn't you?" his smile grew into a cocky grin. apollo saw that noelle had dropped her head and he wasn't sure why she had. had he done something wrong? he hoped not.
apollo was caught off guard, not sure what to think of noelle's comment. what effect? was it a good affect? he saw a smile grow on her face which was radiant. it made his cocky smile soften, that was the affect that noelle really had on him. it was the fact that even when apollo was in the worst mood, she could make him crack a smile. almost like when you made lemonade. a lemon was as sour as could be but once you added sugar and a bit of water, it made sweet lemonade. that was a bad comparison though since noelle was far from a lemonade. apollo thought maybe the rainbow on his cloudy day. he didn't know if it would come every time but she always did seem to and when she did, she was always beautiful and unexpected in a magical way. apollo took a few steps closer to noelle still feeling clamped up. "what effect?" apollo asked not understanding.
